Dominion City School

Dominion City School! I was a student there from late November of 1955 until I graduated from Grade 12 in June of 1963. Grade 5 was spent in The Annex which was a poorly heated shed behind this building. Grade 6 was in a new building just opened that year. Grade 7 to 12 were in the building shown here. I also taught in this building for May and June of 1965. The school was built in 1916 but poorly maintained and was condemned in 1965. It had been wired for electricity in or around 1950, but no other modern conveniences were added. It did not have running water. There was not even a telephone in the building until Gabe Girard became principal in 1962 and had a telephone installed in his office.
