This was Room I with Miss Couch as the teacher, taken when I was in Grade One. I am kneeling on the grass 6th from the left and 5th from the right. I was just about the smallest kid in Grade One, and the only kid wearing glasses. I was very unprepared for school. I could not even speak clearly. It was a year of two later before I could properly pronounce words that contained the letters r or j. I had Miss Couch for Grades One and Two. At the end of Grade Two she became Mrs. Howie and quit teaching -- a life trajectory followed by many young women of that era.
